Energy Efficiency Workshop – Carbon Trust Seminar

16 members (several last minute cry-offs among Centre Managers reduced the total) and 2 others attended this review of the energy efficiency surveys carried out in six of our member centres.

Date: 19th October 2010

16 members (several last minute cry-offs among Centre Managers reduced the total) and 2 others attended this review of the energy efficiency surveys carried out in six of our member centres.

The presentation was fully interactive with comment and questions being made and answered by our main speaker, John Pooley (Carbon Trust accredited consultant).

All aspects of energy efficiency were covered from which lighting offered the best all round performance to encouraging buy-in to energy saving programmes from retailers within schemes.

Beforehand, if you had told many of those present that two hours would pass in this manner on these subjects without any inclination towards sleep they would have looked quizzical but much credit goes to John for providing and James for facilitating a genuinely interesting, informative and relevant seminar.

So for the individuals involved it’s the addition of Optimising Lux Meters to our Christmas lists and for the NIRSC it’s time to consider:-
1.    Whether as a Region to make representations in respect of controlling the introduction of Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) and against the wider implementation of the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC).
2.    Whether the NIRSC should be benchmarking KWh usage as a region and or, whether this should be extended to regular surveying of electricity costs, usage and suppliers.
